Dome Security Camera

Dome cameras are a good choice for their durability from vandalism.  Usually because of their rounded design they are difficult to grasp onto and often resist abuse like being struck.

Tinted domes offer an added layer of protection, by keeping the optics hidden and concealing where they are actually pointing.

Overall dome cameras give a neat and professional appearance.

Dome Cameras

A draw back is during night time the camera infra-red lights can reflect off the inside of the dome creating a slight milky haze over the image.

Often their adjustment range can be a little limited, which may require additional and specialized mounts to work well in all installation areas.

Bullet Security Camera

Bullet Cameras

Bullet cameras can vary in size.   Standard bullets are shaped like a very small loaf of bread and mini bullets more about the size of a pop can.  Both usually allow 3-axis of movement which can adjust to almost any mounting requirements, making them very versatile and a good choice for outside installations.

Turret Security Camera

Turret camera

Turret cameras are small and round making them very similar to a dome camera.  They easily blend into the surroundings making them less noticeable than a bullet camera.  They adapt very well to different mounting locations and do not exhibit the night time milky haze that dome cameras can sometimes have, but do not offer the same level of vandalism security as a dome camera.

PTZ security camera

PTZ  or Pan  Tilt  and Zoom

PTZ cameras are what you see in spy movies where the spies freeze against the wall waiting for the camera to pass before moving on, much like a search light.

These cameras can be moved remotely and/or set to a patrol pattern.  They will pan left or right 360 degrees, and also tilt up and down giving you complete control of where the camera is pointed.  They also come equipped with a zoom lens to focus in on distant objects.

These types of cameras are some what larger and more costly. Usually best suited for larger areas or areas of interest that are further away.
